A New Way to Develop for SharePoint

Using Azure, Visual Studio online and Agile methodologies to make more, better stuff

SharePoint development is changing—not just what is developed, but how it is developed. If you are still developing on physical servers with a local installation of Visual Studio, you may start to realize that it is becoming increasingly difficult to provide timely solutions that meet business needs. SharePoint is getting more complex while the business is getting more demanding. You need to be able to build your customers’ solutions as rapidly and as effectively as possible despite the increasing complexity. In this session, I will teach you how to leverage virtual machines, Visual Studio online, and Azure to increase the speed at which you develop, better manage your projects, and become more flexible. We will start and finish a project to create a custom full-trust solution using the latest and greatest tools and methodologies. During this session, we will:

·         Provision a new SharePoint 2013 virtual environment (in a matter of minutes)

·         Use C# and Visual Studio 2013 to create a custom full-trust solution that incorporates Azure-hosted components

·         Build and test our solution on Visual Studio Online.

Although we will build a working solution (with plenty of code), the emphasis will be on the process and tools used along the way. We will manage our project using Visual Studio online and the Agile project template, simulating a team of developers working together.
